TRICHOLOGY

What is Trichology? Who is a Trichologist?

Trichology is the study of the hair and scalp, in both health and disease. This may range from hair loss, pattern thinning, flaky or oily scalp, to hair that is simply out of condition and in need of some attention!

As a qualified and experienced holistic trichologist Shuna conducts the first meeting with a patient as a consultation In Willow Suite at The Anderida Practice and this can last up to an hour. Various topics are discussed, such as your general health, medication taken, diet, lifestyle and stress levels, hair care routine. It is most important that a thorough examination of the hair and scalp is carried out often with images taken too. This is essential to make an accurate diagnosis of the condition and then begin supporting the patient.

There are a few governing bodies but Shuna belongs to The Institute of trichologist’s and regularly attends CPD events with European Hair Research Society to further her knowledge on new treatments and approaches.

Following this, a treatment can be carried out as well as clear instructions being given for self-treatment at home.

Our hair is considered our “Crowing Glory” and often defines our sexuality and personality, I hate that people experience such distress with their hair losses. However I am incredibly lucky over my 24 years in practice to have met the most wonderful patients many of which have become good friends too.

Testimonials.

“Feel like I am in very safe, encouraging hands! I came out of my first appointment with Shuna feeling so much more positive and hopeful about my hair condition. Shuna was incredibly knowledgeable, very friendly, easy to talk to, didn’t rush me at all, answered all my questions and is the perfect person to help anyone going through hair loss. I finally feel as though I have someone who cares in my corner which is a huge step in any kind of ‘recovery’. I also really appreciate that Shuna said I could email her with any follow up questions. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her and am very glad I came across her practice.” Kitty P

A few months ago, worried Catriona visited the clinic complaining about her rapid hair loss condition. I examined her scalp and other medical reports for hair loss symptoms. She followed my instructions and during our recent session, I noticed her hair was growing back.

In her testimonial, she said:

“I went to Shuna as my hair was falling out at a rather alarming rate, a few months after being diagnosed with Pernicious Anaemia. She explained my hair loss type after a thorough examination of my scalp, blood results and health and diet history. She very reassuringly told me that it would grow back as my iron and ferritin levels became normal. She gave me dietary advice and which supplements to take and general care of my hair. She put me at ease, and I felt so much better after my first visit which helped me to stop worrying. She very kindly said I could contact her with any concerns regarding my hair in between my visits to the clinic. On my follow up appointment a few months later, she confirmed that my hair was growing back which was just fantastic! I will continue to see Shuna in a few months to check that all is still well. Overall, I am so happy I made the decision to contact Shuna.”
